Do you know what's in your water?

This is an edited email from my role model and educator The Platinum Giraffe (edited for you and not for the hairdresser):

Time to start a new week by kicking it off with some exclusive Blonding Crew only “nuggies of knowledge”.

Let’s talk water!

Water contains minerals. Minerals are rocks.

Therefore we’re walking around with rocks in our damn hair! Hence my constant preaching about getting a water filter on your shower.

Tap water/shower water can either be soft, hard, or very hard.

Common minerals found in all our tap water (that can cause build up and chemical reactions with lightener/color if not removed first) are:

• Calcium

• Magnesium

• Copper

• Sodium

• Potassium

• Zinc

• Iron

• Fluoride

• (And other various added minerals depending on the area you live in including arsenic, fyi)

To get a full water mineral report for your zip code you can go to:

Mineral build up in the hair can cause:

I suggest EVERYONE get a Water Testing Kit from Malibu C. Like the one pictured below.

They’re $3.00 on the Malibu C website listed below.

Approximately 85% of the U.S. has hard water and those that don't still have harmful chemicals and minerals!

Test your water for the presence of calcium and magnesium (hard water), along with chlorine - elements that most adversely affect hair, scalp, and skin. YOUR HAIR WILL TELL WHEN YOUR WATER IS WELL!

This water testing kit was an absolute EYE OPENER for me.

We’re able to visually see the effects on the testing strip AND you can (if your tap water has chlorine) watch the Chlorine test actually turn your water yellow, bright yellow, or green.

I suggest the following shower water filters to my clients.
